The photo series is a commentary on the ideology that young adults, especially young Black men, ought to find and stay in any good nine to five job that comes their way (represented by the typical formal wear worn by the model throughout the photos). In adhering to this societal norm, many young adults forget their innate passions and become lost when they try to rekindle their once innate passion later on in life, thus becoming lost in the process. Many then try to make the best of the life they now live because it would cost them more than they are willing to sacrifice to find what they have lost.
Tolorunlogo Akinrinola is a Nigerian Canadian artist who resides in the Ottawa-Gatineau region. His photography journey started in 2017 with the founding of Tolo Images while completing his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of Toronto. It was during that period in his life where he started capturing people he would notice and openly ponder on. His early influences derived from nature have been exhibited in numerous exhibitions across the GTA including a curated showcase at the Toronto Public Library Richview Branch and within the University of Toronto Scarborough campus. In more recent work, the emerging photographer has shifted his focus to editorial portraiture and utilizes his personal experiences and experiences of those close to him as inspiration for exploring themes of mental health, spirituality and Black culture.
