The world of art is filled with spectacular talent and potential. With the way technology is developing at such a fast pace, it is possible for new, young artists to make it in the higher levels of the art world. That is where NFT art comes into play.

An NFT is a non-fungible token, which is a digital collectible that has a specific serial number connected to it, making it one of a kind to whoever owns it. They have become increasingly popular within the crypto-finance space. NFTs are no longer art alone, but items that bring a community together, and bring success to artists. Success came to one of these young talents who is not necessarily old enough to be in this complicated yet exciting space.

Nyla Hayes, a 12-year-old artist, became one of the youngest NFT artists to be deemed a millionaire within the space when she created the “Long Neckie Ladies”—a collection of 100 inspiring women. Why Long Neckie? Well, the art speaks for itself. With her love of the Brontosaurus dinosaur as inspiration. Each piece has its own variation of cool colours and style, so whoever owns it can know that their specific NFT is special.

When interviewed by Time Magazine about her interest and why she chose the Time magazine “Women of the Year” list to represent her NFTs, she explained the connection that she had with a peculiar artist she could relate to.

“The diversity of the list is what really impressed me. When I found out my favorite artist of the past, Frida Kahlo, was on the list, I was so excited. I always loved Frida Kahlo’s art, but during this process, I learned how she suffered from a vehicle accident, miscarriages, and pain and sorrow. I was encouraged to see that even though she faced many obstacles in her life, she remained strong and determined to keep expressing herself through her art.”

With her inspiration and love of art, Hayes was able to make something wonderful and captivating within a space that is unfamiliar to most people. Hayes started drawing at the age of four and only started doing digital art by the age of nine. When she created the Long Neckie Ladies, she knew nothing of NFTs. She claims in an interview with People of Color in Tech, that her uncle is the one who taught her and her mother about NFTs, which they began learning about through the streaming platform YouTube.

The tech world is not an easy one to establish fame and recognition with all the brilliant minds in that space. Hayes, however, was able to establish herself within a year of her appearance in the art and crypto industry.

Now, she is a multi-millionaire digital artist that has opened the space for young children who have hopes of someday making it big within the art world. However, this is not a success story only for children but for all artists out there. With her success, it shows the true possibilities that art can bring.

Picasso’s art may not have been considered fantastic or appealing in the beginning, though through perseverance and diligence, he made a name for himself. Nyla Hayes is a young Picasso. One who put herself out there and created something that is more than just digital art.
